Corrections Museum of Manitoba and Historical Society

The objectives and purposes of the Corrections Museum of Manitoba and Historical Society are to discover and collect any material related to Corrections in Manitoba, to promote the research and recording of the history of Corrections in Manitoba, to provide for the preservation of material collected and to ensure its accessibility to those who wish to examine or study it, and to promote the rebuilding and refurbishing of Correctional equipment and apparatus to promote and encourage public interest in Corrections history.

Still in its early stages, the museum does not have a permanent home and exists online and through social media.

The current focus of the museum is to continue to collect artifacts, research historical events, and produce educational travelling exhibits.

The Corrections Museum of Manitoba and Historical Society began as a Correctional Officer, Peter Korzeniowski, with a keen interest in the history of corrections in Manitoba. Through his research of corrections, he was introduced to Jack Templeman, who was at that time the curator of the Winnipeg Police Museum.

Peter continued his research while over the period of two years completed a certificate program in Museum Practices. He went on to bring interested people together and form a board in 2018 which became incorporated later the same year.
